- 2½ cups whole milk
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 4 large egg yolks
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- ½ cup mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Heat the milk
In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling. - Mix egg yolks
In a bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until smooth and pale. - Temper the eggs
Slowly pour about half of the warm milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly. Then pour the mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining milk. - Cook the custard
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon (about 5–7 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract. - Add chocolate chips
Let the custard cool slightly, then fold in chocolate chips. - Chill
Transfer custard into serving cups and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until set. - Serve
