Korean Mayak Eggs (Addictive Soft-Boiled Eggs) 🥚

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp mirin (optional, or honey)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil the eggs
    • Bring a pot of water to boil.
    • Gently add eggs and boil for 6–7 minutes for soft, jammy yolks.
    • Immediately transfer to ice water to stop cooking. Peel carefully.
  2. Prepare the marinade
    • In a bowl, mix soy sauce, water, sugar, mirin, sesame oil, garlic, and chili flakes.
    • Stir until sugar dissolves.
  3. Marinate eggs
    • Place peeled eggs in a container or ziplock bag.
    • Pour marinade over eggs.
    • Refrigerate at least 4 hours, ideally overnight.
  4. Serve
    • Slice in half and sprinkle with chopped green onions or sesame seeds.
    • Perfect as a snack, ramen topping, or side dish.
