🍎 Apple Pie

Ingredients

For the Crust

  • 2Β½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 6–8 tbsp ice water

For the Apple Filling

  • 6 cups apples, peeled and sliced
  • ΒΎ cup granulated sugar
  • ΒΌ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ΒΌ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Top

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust
    In a bowl mix flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add ice water gradually until dough forms. Divide into two discs, wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Make the filling
    In a large bowl combine apples, sugars, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and vanilla. Mix well.
  3. Assemble the pie
    Roll out one dough disc and place it in a 9-inch pie dish. Add the apple filling. Roll out the second dough and place over the top (or make a lattice crust).
  4. Finish the top
    Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle sugar on top.
  5. Bake
    Bake at 375Β°F (190Β°C) for 45–55 minutes, until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  6. Cool before serving
    Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours so the filling sets.
