A classic cake with swirls of vanilla and chocolate batter, soft, moist, and perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • Β½ tsp salt
  • Β½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk
  • ΒΌ cup cocoa powder
  • 2–3 tbsp milk (for cocoa mixture)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven
    • Set oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
    • Grease and flour a loaf pan or round cake pan.
  2. Prepare dry ingredients
    • In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar
    • In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla extract.
  4. Combine batter
    • Alternately add flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with flour. Mix until smooth.
  5. Divide and flavor
    • Remove β…“ of the batter into another bowl.
    • Mix cocoa powder and 2–3 tbsp milk into this portion to make the chocolate batter.
  6. Create marble effect
    • Pour vanilla and chocolate batter alternately into the pan.
    • Use a skewer or knife to gently swirl the batters together for a marbled look.
  7. Bake
    • Bake 40–50 minutes (for loaf) or 30–35 minutes (for round pan), or until a toothpick comes out clean.
    • Let cool 10 minutes in pan, then transfer to a wire rack.
  8. Optional
    • Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate glaze.
