
A classic cake with swirls of vanilla and chocolate batter, soft, moist, and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- Β½ tsp salt
- Β½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk
- ΒΌ cup cocoa powder
- 2β3 tbsp milk (for cocoa mixture)
Instructions
- Preheat oven
- Set oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).
- Grease and flour a loaf pan or round cake pan.
- Prepare dry ingredients
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream butter and sugar
- In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla extract.
- Combine batter
- Alternately add flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with flour. Mix until smooth.
- Divide and flavor
- Remove β of the batter into another bowl.
- Mix cocoa powder and 2β3 tbsp milk into this portion to make the chocolate batter.
- Create marble effect
- Pour vanilla and chocolate batter alternately into the pan.
- Use a skewer or knife to gently swirl the batters together for a marbled look.
- Bake
- Bake 40β50 minutes (for loaf) or 30β35 minutes (for round pan), or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool 10 minutes in pan, then transfer to a wire rack.
- Optional
- Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate glaze.
