
Ingredients
For the dough
- 3 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
- ¾ cup warm milk
- ¼ cup sugar
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 egg
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For frying
- Vegetable oil
Optional toppings
- Powdered sugar
- Cinnamon sugar
- Chocolate glaze
Instructions
1. Activate the yeast
In a bowl, combine:
- Warm milk
- Sugar
- Yeast
Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. Make the dough
Add:
- Egg
- Melted butter
- Vanilla
- Salt
Mix well, then gradually add flour until a soft dough forms.
Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
3. First rise
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
4. Shape the doughnuts
Roll dough to about 1 cm thickness.
Cut using a doughnut cutter or:
- One large glass
- One small bottle cap for the center
Place on a tray and let rise again for 30 minutes.
5. Fry
Heat oil to about 175°C (350°F).
Fry doughnuts:
- 1–2 minutes per side
- Until golden brown
Drain on paper towels.
6. Add toppings
While warm:
- Roll in cinnamon sugar, or
- Dust with powdered sugar, or
- Dip in chocolate glaze
