Cake base:
- 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus eggs, oil, water as directed)
Add-ins:
- 1 cup chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
- ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- ½ cup peanut butter chips (optional)
Cream cheese swirl:
- 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- ½ cup creamy peanut butter
👩🍳 Instructions
- Preheat oven
- Set to 175°C (350°F) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare cake batter
- Mix the chocolate cake batter according to package directions.
- Pour into the prepared pan.
- Add the goodies
- Sprinkle chopped Reese’s, chocolate chips, and peanut butter chips evenly over the batter.
- Make the swirl
- Beat cream cheese, melted butter, vanilla, powdered sugar, and peanut butter until smooth.
- Assemble
- Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the cake batter.
- Lightly swirl with a knife (don’t overmix).
- Bake
- Bake for 40–45 minutes.
- The center should still be slightly gooey—that’s the “earthquake” effect!
- Cool & serve
- Let it cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm for maximum gooeyness 😍

- Add crushed peanuts for extra crunch
- Drizzle melted peanut butter or chocolate on top after baking
