1. Mix dry ingredients
- In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar
2. Cut in butter
- Add cold butter
- Rub with fingers or use a pastry cutter until mixture looks like crumbs
3. Add liquid
- Pour in cold milk (and vanilla if using)
- Mix gently until dough just comes together
- Do NOT overmix (important for soft scones!)
4. Shape
- Turn dough onto a floured surface
- Pat into a 2–3 cm thick circle
- Cut into triangles or rounds
5. Chill (secret tip!)
- Chill in fridge for 15–20 minutes for better rise
6. Bake
