
Stuffed Cabbage Rolls are a comforting dish made with tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a savory mixture of meat and rice, then simmered in a rich tomato sauce.
📝 Ingredients
For the Rolls
- 1 large cabbage head
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- ½ cup uncooked rice
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley
For the Sauce
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 cup crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
👩🍳 Instructions
1️⃣ Prepare the Cabbage
Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
Place the whole cabbage in the boiling water for 3–5 minutes until the leaves soften.
Carefully remove and peel off the large leaves.
2️⃣ Make the Filling
In a bowl, mix ground beef, rice, chopped onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, paprika, and parsley.
3️⃣ Roll the Cabbage
Place a spoonful of filling on a cabbage leaf.
Fold the sides inward and roll tightly like a burrito.
4️⃣ Prepare the Sauce
In a bowl, mix tomato sauce, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, paprika, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
5️⃣ Cook the Rolls
Place cabbage rolls seam-side down in a pot or baking dish.
Pour the tomato sauce over them.
- Stovetop: Simmer covered for 1½–2 hours.
- Oven: Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 1 hour.
