🥄 Ingredients (for 2 8-inch rounds)

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cups whole milk

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prep

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans. Line the bottom with parchment paper for perfectly round cakes.

2. Mix dry ingredients

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

3. Cream butter & sugar

  • In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3–5 minutes).

4. Add eggs & vanilla

  • Beat in eggs one at a time. Stir in vanilla.

5. Combine wet & dry

  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

6. Bake

  • Divide batter evenly into prepared pans.
  • Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool 10 minutes in the pan, then remove and let cool completely on a wire rack.

💡 Tips for a Perfect Round Cake

  • Use room-temperature eggs and butter for even mixing.
  • Don’t overmix—overmixing = dense cake.
  • Level tops with a serrated knife or cake leveler before frosting.
  • Wrap cooled cakes in plastic wrap if making ahead—keeps them moist.
