🛒 Ingredients:

  • 2 cups dried beef (sliced or chopped)
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2–2½ cups milk
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Salt (only if needed – beef is salty!)
  • Pinch of paprika (optional)

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Prepare the Beef:

  • If the dried beef is very salty, rinse it briefly and pat dry.
  • Chop into bite-sized pieces.

2. Make the Roux:

  • Melt butter in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add flour and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring constantly.

3. Add Milk:

  • Slowly pour in milk while whisking to avoid lumps.
  • Cook until the sauce becomes thick and creamy.

4. Add Beef:

  • Stir in the chopped dried beef.
  • Let it simmer for 5–7 minutes.

5. Season:

  • Add black pepper and paprika.
  • Taste before adding salt.

🍞 Serve:

Traditionally served over:

  • Toast 🍞
  • Biscuits
  • Or even mashed potatoes 🥔
